Hosting the Spanish side Unicaja Malaga at the second week match of Euroleague Top 16, Anadolu Efes, down by 17 points in the 17th minute at 42-25, made an outstanding comeback to win the game 74-70. Anadolu Efes was trailing 49-34 at the halftime of the match, played at Abdi İpekçi Arena.
Starting the match with Heurtel, Janning, Cedi, Saric and Lasme, Anadolu Efes got its first field goal by Janning with a three-pointer. Down 11-3 in the fourth minute, the team managed to bring the score difference to one point in the seventh minute as Draper and Perperoglou was helped by Lasme and Janning in scoring: 12-13. Getting three points with Perperoglou with an and-one following the opponent’s points, Anadolu Efes finished the first 10 minutes trailing 23-15. Starting the second quarter with Perperoglou’s layup, the team was trailing 17-23 in the 11th minute. Making it 23-30 in the 14th minute with Bjelica and Furkan’s three-point field goals, Anadolu Efes got its 25th point off of Krstic. While Cedi scored four points to make it 29-42 in the 17th minute, Anadolu Efes got five more points with Saric and Janning, trailing 49-34 at the halftime.
Starting the second half with Janning’s points, Anadolu Efes made it 39-51 in the 23rd minute. Playing excellent defense in these moments, Anadolu Efes brought the difference down to five points in the 26th minute with Saric, Draper and Perperoglou’s three-pointers, followed by Unicaja Malaga’s timeout: 48-53. Getting another three-point field goal with Perperoglou after the timeout, Efes made it a two-point game with three-minutes left to play in the quarter: 51-53. In the remaining three minutes, Anadolu Efes tied the game with Draper and Janning’s three-point field goals, starting the last 10 minutes at 57-57 after a third-quarter score of 23-8. Krstic’s spectacular slam dunk in the 31st minute put the team up after a long time: 59-57. With Cedi’s points in the paint, the team increased the lead to six points at 33.30, ahead 63-57. Furkan’s two accurate free-throws and Cedi’s layup forced the opponent’s coach to call a timeout in the 35th minute: 67-59. As the opponent made a 7-0 scoring run in the two minutes following the timeout to make it 67-66, Ivkovic called a timeout. Getting points with Cedi and Draper after the timeout, Anadolu Efes left the court victorious 74-70 and got its second win in the Top 16.
