Ataman: “It is Important That We’ve Won Without Playing Our Own Game…”

Defeating LDLC Asvel Villeurbanne team 72-68 in the 5th-week postponement match of Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Anadolu Efes head coach Ergin Ataman stated his thoughts post-game:

"This is an important victory because we didn’t play our own game. While we play with an average of 19 assists in the Euroleague, we only scored 8 assists today. We’ve only scored 2 out of 3 three-pointers in a Euroleague match for the first time. Under these circumstances, it was important to win even though we didn’t play own our game or playing bad basketball. We’ve struggled to defend David Lighty within the second quarter but we’ve changed our defensive strategy within the last five minutes and played with three bigs. Chris Singleton defended Lighty, and they couldn’t score after this change. Then, we’ve attacked their hoop. 14 turnovers are a lot, 7 of them were underneath turnovers, and I don’t understand making these many turnovers while we are in the advantage. We’ve played offensively with our shorts against their bigs and won the match. It was important to win the match today.”
