Playing on the road against the Croatian side Cedevita Zagreb in the eighth week match of Euroleague First Round Group B, Anadolu Efes won the game 81-75. Losing to the Croatian side 81-75 in the third week match of Euroleague, Anadolu Efes won the return game with the same score. Anadolu Efes was leading 42-39 at the halftime of the match, played at Drazen Petrovic Arena.
Starting the match with Granger, Birkan, Diebler, Saric and Tyus, Anadolu Efes got its first field goal by Birkan’s three pointer. Ahead 7-3 at 2.20 following two consecutive field goals by Tyus, Efes got a three pointer by Diebler and four points by Saric, leading 14-11 past the seventh minute. Getting a three point field goal by Granger in the final minute of the quarter, Anadolu Efes was leading 17-13 passing through the first 10 minutes of the game. Starting the second quarter with free throws by Cedi and Dunston, Efes was leading 22-19 past the 13th minute. With Efes ahead 29-24 following Diebler and Brown’s points in the 15th minute, Zagreb called a timeout. Responding to two three pointers by opponent after the timeout with Diebler and Granger’s three point field goals, Efes was leading 36-30 into the final 2.30 minutes of the half. Tyus’s four points and Saric’s two points in the remaining duration helped Anadolu Efes towards a halftime score of 42-39.
Starting the second half with Saric and Heurtel’s points, Efes was ahead 49-43 past the 22nd minute. Reaching 50 points with Diebler, Efes was ahead 52-48 in the 24th minute with a slam dunk by Dunston. Ahead 54-49 with four minutes left to play in the quarter following Granger’s layup, Efes failed to stop a 13-0 scoring run by the opponent in 3.30 minutes, trailing 62-54 with 40 seconds to play in the quarter. Getting three points with Cedi in the remaining duration, Efes was trailing 65-57 while heading into the final quarter. With an accurate free throw by Dunston in the first minute of the final quarter, the score was 58-65. When the margin went up to 10 points, Granger and Brown pulled it down to six, while Dunston hit a slam dunk to bring the score deficit down to four points in the 33rd minute: 64-68. Trailing 67-70 in the 34th minute following Brown’s three pointer, Efes got scoring by Dunston and Saric, reclaiming the lead 72-70 with 3.15 minutes left to play in the match. Thanks to Birkan’s three pointer subsequent to the opponent’s timeout that minute, Efes increased the lead to five points: 75-70. Leading 77-70 in the last two minutes with Saric, Anadolu Efes maintained the lead in the remaining duration and with Heurtel’s free throws from the tactical fouls to seal the game, left the court victorious 81-75.
