Participating in the pre-season Crete International Basketball Tournament, Efes defeated the Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem 94-76 in our first match of the tournament. Anadolu Efes was ahead 55-37 at the halftime of the match, played at Heraklion Arena.
Starting the match with Granger, Cotton, Cedi, Brown and Dunston, Anadolu Efes’s first points were scored by Dunston. Following Cotton’s three pointer, Brown started a scoring streak. The American’s 10 points in the first quarter were accompanied by Cedi and Honeycutt, while Samet’s field goal in the paint set the score for the first 10 minutes: 25-16. Starting the second quarter again with Dunston’s points, Efes increased the lead to 14 points in the 12th minute following Thomas’s three-pointer: 31-17. Leading 35-22 past the 14th minute with points by Honeycutt, Efes increased the lead to 17 points in the 15th minute after Heurtel and Thomas’s consecutive three-point field goals, forcing the opponent to call a timeout: 41-24. Scoring with Thomas and Furkan after the timeout, Efes was leading 50-33 with 2:30 minutes left to play in the half. Two points by Samet and three points by Cotton in the remaining duration helped Anadolu Efes towards a halftime score of 55-37.
After Heurtel opened the score sheet for Efes in the second half, the score was 62-47 in the 25th minute following Brown and Thomas’s points. Hitting consecutive three-point field goals by Thomas, Efes increased the lead to 20 points in the 27th minute: 68-48. Scoring with Dunston, Granger and Thomas in the remaining three minutes, Efes was leading 75-50 while heading into the final quarter. In the first four minutes of the final quarter, Efes had one point by Furkan and two points each by Thomas and Cedi from the foul line, ahead 80-59 in the 34th minute. Having another two points by Dunston from the foul line, Efes was leading 82-66 with 3.30 minutes left to play in the game. Ahead 86-68 with Heurtel and Furkan, Efes was leading 89-70 with two minutes left in the game after Cedi’s three-pointer. Getting four more points by Thomas and Dunston in the remaining two minutes, Anadolu Efes won the match 94-76.
