Hosting the Croatian side Cedevita Zagreb in the third week match of Euroleague 2015-16 season First Round Group B, Anadolu Efes was defeated 81-75. Anadolu Efes was ahead 41-36 at the halftime of the match, played at Abdi İpekçi Arena.
Out with an injury, Birkan did not play for the team.
Starting the match with Granger, Furkan, Diebler, Saric and Dunston, Anadolu Efes got its first points by Furkan. With Saric and Diebler’s points reinforced by Tyus, Anadolu Efes was leading 14-8 past the fifth minute. As Granger responded to the opponent’s three with his own, Efes was leading 17-11 at the TV timeout. Scoring with Saric, Granger and Heurtel in the second five-minute part of the quarter, Efes was ahead 25-21 at the end of the first 10 minutes. Starting the second quarter with Diebler’s three pointer, Efes was ahead 28-21 in the 11th minute. With Brown’s free throw followed by Dunston’s slam dunk, Efes increased the lead to double digits in the 12th minute for the first time in the match: 31-21. Leading 37-30 with one free throw each by Dunston, Tyus and Granger in the 18th minute, Efes got four more points by Saric and Tyus in the remaining duration, heading to the locker room leading 41-36 at the end of the first half.
As Dunston opened the score sheet for Efes in the second half, Efes was leading 45-38 past the 22nd minute. With Saric’s three pointer followed by Dunston’s free throws, the score was 50-43 in the 23rd minute. Ahead 50-47 at the TV timeout in the 25th minute, Anadolu Efes got a three pointer by Diebler and a perimeter shot by Brown after the timeout, leading 55-49 in the 27th minute. Getting another three point field goal by Brown in the final minute of the quarter, Efes was leading 58-54 while heading into the final 10 minutes of the match. Falling behind 59-58 with five points from the opponent in the final quarter, Efes coach Ivkovic called a timeout. Tying the game with a free throw by Dunston after the timeout, Efes reclaimed the lead in the 32nd minute with Brown’s field goal: 61-59. Increasing the lead to eight points in the 33rd minute with two three-pointers by Diebler, Efes was leading 67-59. As the opponent tied the score at 67 in the 35th minute, Granger put the team up: 69-67. Trailing 74-69 with 3.30 left to play, Efes was behind 74-72 with 1.07 to play after Dunston and Saric’s points. Unable to reclaim the lead in the remaining duration despite three points by Brown, Anadolu Efes left the court defeated 81-75.
