Defeating Türk Telekom on the road 89-87 at the 22nd week match of Spor Toto Basketball League, Anadolu Efes coach Dusan Ivkovic stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:
“Though it was a good one to watch, we failed to keep the match under good control today. We managed to keep the game under control in the first quarter, scoring 31 points. However, we were trailing in score in the remaining quarters. In the third and fourth quarters, we shot 19 three pointers against zone defense, which is too many for us. We could convert six of these 19 shots. Our problems during this match were turnovers and missing open three pointers. Those were among the reasons that we failed to keep it under control. Fortunately for us, Saric managed to hit that three to send the match into overtime. If not, we could have lost the game. Most teams that compete in the European competitions go through hard times due to playing both in the Euroleague and in their national leagues. Today, we were challenged by that, too. I would like to congratulate Türk Telekom for fighting until the very last moment. I wish the best of success to them...”
Anadolu Efes’s Birkan Batuk also stated his thoughts: “First of all, I would like to express my grief for the undesirable, disheartening incidents in Turkey. As a national athlete of this country, I would like to express my condolences to our whole country. I hope we will not live through these again in the future. I hope our people, our youth, the innocent people won’t be killed. I hope we will continue to live in this beautiful country in sympathy, peace and tranquility. As to the match, we had a pretty good start in the first quarter. Unfortunately, we couldn’t manage to keep that rhythm. At Türk Telekom, Harris had a great performance in the first half. In the second half, we occasionally failed to convert our shots against zone defense. At the end of the match, Saric and Cedi took great responsibility. We managed to win a very challenging match. We now have a home game against Unicaja Malaga in the Euroleague. We still have the chance to qualify, and we are determined to go on till the end. I hope we will win at home before our supporters, and wait for Panathinaikos to lose...”
